Best Practices
St. Mary’s Home places priority attention on evidence-based best practice models to ensure that we can support the most favourable outcomes for both parent and child.
The Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services invests a portion of its Children’s Mental Health Fund to enable St. Mary’s Home to provide Modified Interaction Guidance, an evidence-based intervention that supports the development of healthy, secure attachment in very young children, especially in the children of young parents with a history of unresolved trauma and loss.
Under the tutelage of Dr. Dianne Benoit, Child Psychiatrist at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children, the Infant Mental Health Team at St. Mary’s Home is engaging young families in Play for the Future, starting them on a road that research indicates will prevent or reduce mental health difficulties for the child later on.
